Solid State Storage

Solid State Storage or SSS is data storage using silicon microchips which stores data electronically instead of magnetically.  SSS contains no mechanical parts, allowing data transfer to and from storage media to take place at much higher speed and providing a more predictable lifespan for the storage media.

SSS comes in three forms: Solid State Drives (SSD), Solid State Cards (SSC), Solid State Modules (SSM).

Recently interest in SSS technology has occurred due to the way it can be used to improve enterprise storage where it is being used for primary storage as well as cache in front of traditional spinning disks.

There are two types of solid state systems, flash memory based systems and RAM based systems.  To find out more about Solid State Storage, contact the Servers and Storage team today.
